Enterprising Power Transmission

Our world of tomorrow will feature sufficient energy for everyone’s needs. This vision is carried forward by our pioneering role in the transmission sector. Transmission forms the intermediate stage between Generation & Distribution of power. Losses during the transmission not only cause an increase in the cost of power, but also hamper the predictability of the power supply. Therefore, an efficient transmission system is necessary to make our vision of a future with adequate energy for all a reality.

The focus on the transmission network will assume significant levels as the current capacity is estimated to grow at 14% and the network length at 10% in the coming years. This is supplemented by the fact that the power transmission in India has increased from 3708 ckt kms in 1950 to more than 265,000 ckt kms at present.

The government has been clear in expressing its interest of increased private participation in power transmission. Reliance Power Transmission Limited has been one of the forerunners in availing some of recently announced projects by the government.

Transmission Division – Network Advancement and Expansion

The transmission division, Reliance Power Transmission Limited (RPTL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of RInfra. It has led the transition from a conventional generation linked evacuation regime to network expansion based on integrated system planning.

RPTL has become the leading private utility firm to have secured the first setup of projects worth Rs. 1,370 crore in the Western Region System Strengthening Schemes. It is also executing the Parbati Koldam Transmission project worth Rs. 1,070 crore in Himachal Pradesh for the Northern Regional grid. The Mumbai transmission, one of the remarkable achievements of the division is constantly being strengthened by means of various schemes.
